About Javan Tiger

The Javan tiger is a species of tiger native to Indonesia that has a larger body than the Balinese and Sumatran tigers. This tiger species is one of three tiger populations that colonized the Sunda Islands. Formerly, this tiger inhabited most of the island of Java. However, after agricultural land use and infrastructure, the tiger began to retreat to remote mountainous and forested areas in the 1940s. Meanwhile, from the 1980s to the 1990s, the Javan tiger no longer existed. Therefore, in 2008, the Javan tiger was considered extinct.
